Agency News — February 2022

Announcements / February 28, 2022

We're proud to share the recent advancements and new additions to our growing team. It's incredibly rewarding to bring aboard such incredible talent and some of the genuinely best people from the world of higher ed marketing. Read on for a bit of background on each person, and be sure to reach out to congratulate everyone on their new (or expanded) positions.

New Additions to the SimpScar Team

Gabrielle DeMarco (she/her) will join us on March 1st as an AVP of Accounts. Gabrielle comes to us from her role as the AVP of Marketing and Communications at the University of Albany, where she has played a critical role in achieving the largest and most diverse class in university history, overhauling their institutional website, and launching an award-winning new brand identity. Prior to that, she served as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing for the SUNY System.

At SimpScar, she’ll be putting these broad experiences to use in guiding institutions around the country as they build performance-driven brands to achieve meaningful outcomes. Outside of work, you'll most likely find Gabrielle outdoors in the Adirondacks hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing. She's also an animal lover, enjoys art and creative writing, practicing yoga, and loves learning about ecology, psychology & human consciousness.

Gabrielle graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston University with a B.S. in Communication. She lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children.

Steve App (he/him) joined us earlier this month as our AVP of Marketing & Business Development. Steve will help shape the value SimpScar delivers to higher education through its publicly available industry research and original content while helping campus leaders understand how the agency can meet their individual and organizational goals. Before joining us, Steve served in a hybrid position as both Growth Director and Chief Donut Officer at Campus Sonar.

Steve believes it is the combination of people, mission, and the wide range of services SimpScar now offers that will allow him to make a greater impact on the industry — one marketing professional, college, or university at a time.

Outside of work, you'll likely find Steve in a local donut shop (he aims to try at least one in every city he visits), or outside staying active through distance running and cycling. Steve holds a B.A. in Communications from Stonehill College and an M.S. in Communication Management from Temple University. He lives just outside Philadelphia, PA with his wife and children.

In his newly expanded role, Ben will oversee the day-to-day operations and growth of the development tea, ensure the quality of our development work, and continue to increase his role as technical lead with clients.

Ben is a graduate of Wittenberg University where he earned his B.A. in Business Marketing. He lives in Columbus, OH with his wife.

Be sure to reach out and congratulate these individuals on their new & expanded roles. And check out our careers page for our latest career opportunities (remember, we're a fully remote agency) — we currently have twelve openings!
